Another scandal in Russian press occurred due to Alexei Serebryakov’s appearance in London, where his questions and answers were criticized by the pro-Putinist circle and praised by the opposition.
Serebryakov is an actor best known for his main part in the 2014 film Leviathan by Andrei Zvyagintsev.
He accused Russia of stirring up multiple wars and said that being a person with an independent point of view is extremely difficult in Russia. He was also critical of BBC’s McMafia in which he had a leading role, by saying that the series was mediocre and was only of note due to the large budget of the project.
He said that he still identifies as Russian, who unlike Canadians, still give presents.
Alexei Serebryakov received attention as a political figure after appearing in Yuri Dud’s vlog, where he described Putin as a thief and liar and described the Russian national idea as brute strength, arrogance and rudeness.
The actor said that although he played in many films there are only few roles which he finds memorable.
Serebryakov was asked if he wants to direct films himself. He answered that he wants to direct films for which he thinks is impossible to find funding; for example to make a Chekhov film adaptation. However, he said that he is not interested to put his name on a production which does not interest him.
After the meeting, the actor was accused of Russophobia by people who claim to be Russian patriots. After the public outcry, Serebryakov said it is all very unpleasant to him because he feels himself as a very Russian person and patriot.
