As part of the 23rd Raduga theater festival, one of the most important events dedicated to theater in Russia, the Theater for Young Spectators in St. Petersburg, held two whole creative evenings on May 31, 2022 with actor and producer Milos Bikovic. Honored artist of Belarus, actress Vera Polyakova-Makei was the moderator. The famous Serbian actor and star of Russian cinema met with fans in a light and informal setting, talked about his creative journey with humor and wit and communicated with the audience. Milos Bikovic currently serves in the Belgrade State Theater and it was planned to bring the play “Baal”, in which he stars, to the festival. However the performance was cancelled due to technical reasons and it was replaced with a second creative evening. The charming actor was met with with energetic applause, flowers and presents from faithful fans.
Bikovic talked about his brother Mikhail who is a monk, spirituality, his love of Russian cinema, about his current film projects he is producing, including the animated film “Puffins Impossible” where Johnny Depp voices the guitar playing lead character Johnny Puff. “Puffins Impossible” is about four superhero crime fighting puffins. The film is voiced in an imaginary language, due to the producer wishing the movie to be universally understood.
Faith is an important part of Bikovic’s life. When he dreamt about birch trees he understood that it meant that Russia would be an important part of his life in the future. He became deeply interested in Russia when he and his brother Mikhail traveled around different countries on a bus touring various monasteries, but it was the Russian monasteries and the people which deeply impressed him.
Bikovic told about how he always loved Russian film director Nikita Milhalkov’s work and dreamed of working with him. His brother Mikhail even encouraged him to write a letter to Nikita, however Milos found the idea far-fetched. “Why would Mikhalkov need a Serbian actor who doesn’t even speak Russian well?” – thought Milos. However some years passed and Milos got a phone call from a Swiss number about a film role offer from Nikita Milhalkov’s company. Milos did not believe his luck and was convinced it was an elaborate hoax by his friends. He even told the company that he is extremely busy shooting a toilet paper advertisement and probably will not be able to star in the film. However, later when Milos Bikovic received the 118 page script for “Sunstroke” he finally understood that the offer was serious. His brother Mikhail was not surprised and said that he knew this would happen. The film “Sunstroke” was the start of Milos Bikovic’s career in Russia, where he even received his second citizenship in 2022.
He also said how he initially declined starring in his biggest hit movie “Serf” because he felt the spoiled young man character was too similar to the work he did previously and also felt it would be too difficult to realize the directors complex vision. But afterwards producer Edouard Iloyan managed to convince Bikovic to take on the role with the promise that Bikovic will have roles in dramas or thrillers in the future.
Bikovic told about how he learned to play football and ride a motorcycle for his film performances.
Milos Bikovic also told that he is “Team Johnny” and wishes Johnny Depp to win the trial against Amber Heard. He said that Johnny is an extremely nice and pleasant person.
When asked by the co-host what kind of woman is Bikovic’s dream girl, Bikovic said that his ideal woman is someone who continuously improves herself (but also clarified that continuously trying to become more beautiful can be a slippery slope), never stops learning new things and who shares his sense of humor.
Bikovic also said that theate is his first love and it is the main reason he is an actor. He exclaimed that acting in the theater is like a drug and that he would even pay to play in theater – if he had to. He also said that every performance is unique and is truly alive — unlike cinema, which dies by the time it is born. He expressed his wish to star as Richard III and Hamlet, as Shakespeare is one of his most favorite writers, together with Fyodor Dostoyevsky.
